Audi Warranty Information

How does a Audi Warranty work?

Many people are concerned about how their Audi warranty works and whether or not they will be covered in certain circumstances.  While every manufacturer has different policies, and even Audi warranties can be different from model to model and year to year, there are a number of issues to consider.

Due to the costs of maintaining a Audi, we highly recommend an Extended Warranty.  Get a free quote on warranties here.

What doesn't my Audi Warranty cover?

A warranty is typically offered to give the customer peace of mind that their vehicle purchase will maintain its integrity for at least a few years after purchase.  There are certain items that a warranty can't cover because they are not necessarily related to the quality or engineering of the vehicle, but because these items will naturally wear out over the course of time.

Normal Wear and Tear Items (not covered by a warranty)

  • Tires
  • Clutch Linings
  • Brake Pads
  • Windshield Wipers
  • Floor Mats
  • Bulbs
  • Fuses
  • Filters

User-Related Damage (not covered by a warranty)

  • Dents
  • Dings
  • Paint Chips
  • Scratches
  • Bent frame items

What is the difference between a bumper-to-bumper warranty and a powertrain warranty?

Your bumper-to-bumper warranty will cover the basic workings of your car, less the wear and tear items listed above.  Beyond this warranty manufacturers often offer a "powertrain" warranty which covers all the major components of the car that make it "go".  Sometimes these warranties will extend beyond the basic warranty so make sure you know what you still have coverage for!

Typical items covered in a Powertrain Warranty:

  • Engine block
  • Transmission
  • Drivetrain

You will want to make sure your Powertrain is ALWAYS under warranty, especially if you are leasing a car.

If these items are NOT covered in your existing warranty, we HIGHLY recommend getting an extended warranty to cover them.  Otherwise you are asking for trouble! Get a free quote on warranties here.

There is also the risk that some of the dealer-added or user-added items (such as an aftermarket CD player or cruise control) can void the original warranty.  You should consult your manufacturer or a trusted dealer to ensure your warranty is still valid after one of these upgrades.

About 3rd Party Warranties

A manufacturer such as Audi is not the only company that can make a warranty available to you.  In addition, you do not have to necessarily buy a warranty through a dealer either.  You can actually shop around and find your own warranty at a cheaper price than you would find elsewhere.  We have made some references to on-line warranty companies here because of their ability to get the details of your warranty without having to hassle with a dealer.

Ultimately you will want to pay attention to the details of your warranty to make sure your fundamental areas (powertrain primarily) are fully covered during the entire term or your loan or lease.  If there is any question you have whatsoever - ASK IT!  Not knowing how well your warranty covers your vehicle, or thinking certain parts are covered that are not could be a big hit to your wallet.
